I have always loved soap. If it smelled good, felt good, and looked good on the shelf in my bathroom, I was a fan. But then I learned what really goes into most bars of soap: things like benzaldehyde (linked to kidney damage), benzyl acetate (linked to pancreatic cancer), benzyl alcohol (can damage the respiratory system)-- and the list goes on and on. Skin is very absorbent, and I thought, if I'm eating organic apples, then why am I taking a bath with known carcinogens? I'd also rather not use something that's going to pollute water sources when I pour it down the drain. To top it off, as a vegetarian, I wasn't really thrilled to learn that most ordinary soap is made with tallow, an animal by-product. What to do? I thought I'd like to buy something that smelled good, felt good, looked good in my bathroom, but was also good for my skin, good for my health, and good for the environment. I couldn't find it in my favorite stores. So, I worked with an experienced organic soap manufacturer to create a new line. This soap is good. |
